Soul Food

Yesterday, I went back to my house for the first time in days. One of my friends (who just moved into a new house and doesn't have a washer/dryer hookup yet) came over to my house to do her laundry. While I waited for her, I sat down to my piano, and I realized just how much I missed playing. I put my fingers on the keys and started playing a piece that fills the room with emotion. Within the first two measures, all the anxiety and stress that has been building for weeks just drained out through my fingers. Suddenly, with the loud part, I felt the anger flow out. I didn't know that I had any anger in me. Today, even though I'm so tired from not sleeping well, I feel a lot better. I guess that I need to make a point of going home and playing, so I can have an outlet for the worst emotions. Then, my soul feels better.

This post is part of Julie's Hump Day Hmmm

I am the same with the piano. I love playing classical pieces and improvising depending on my mood.

There are many ways to renew the soul.

Art is healing... is it drawing or playing piano or writing poems - all these things help to get back to the state of balance, are healing soul...

it's great to have an outlet for your emotions, that why I like writing so much it helps me get out everything I feel without offending anyone.

Beautiful. I can just picture you at the piano, playing, feeling that release. I think finding and knowing what works for you is such a blessing. And maybe sometimes you have to miss it a little to realize.

Music is definitely a big part of you, and a big part of how you energize yourself. I am glad you got to go play the piano, and I hope you keep doing it.

I think that one of the biggest beauties of the entire hump day hmm is that it helps us realize that different things energize other people, but the world would be a happier place if we all realized our own personal soul food.

Listening to music can be very restorative. I wish I could play an instrument however. Must take it to a whole other level.

I remember growing up when you'd pound out that tune when you needed to relax and release some tension. I hope you are always able to have that release. And you've always been amazingly talented with any instrument you touched. Love ya!
